    Oxygen Generator (Aquarium Air Pump)

    An oxygen generator for aquariums is basically an air pump system that adds oxygen into the water by pushing air through tubes and air stones.

    In fishkeeping, “oxygen generator” usually means:

    • Air pump (most common)
    • Air tubing
    • Air stone / bubble diffuser
    • Sometimes called air compressor or aerator

      It does NOT create oxygen chemically — it simply pushes air into water, helping oxygen dissolve.

      How it works

      • Pump pushes air → air stone breaks it into bubbles
      • Bubbles rise → increases water movement + gas exchange
      • Oxygen enters water, carbon dioxide leaves

      The real oxygen boost comes from:

      • Surface agitation
      • Water circulation

      When you need it

      • Overstocked tanks
      • Hot weather (low oxygen in warm water)
      • Tanks with weak filtration
      • Nighttime in heavily planted tanks (plants consume oxygen at night)
      • Fish like goldfish, cichlids, koi

      Benefits

      Limitations

      • Surface ripple movement
      • Light stocking
